ARSENAL book their place in the Carling Cup quarterfinal when they edge Liverpool 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium this morning. Nicklas Bendtner scored Arsenal winning goal in the second half after both team tied 1-1 in the first half.
Liverpool still smarting from their famous 2-0 win over rivals Manchester United last weekend looks comfortable in the first 10 minutes. But find themselves trailing 0-1 when Arsenal's Frank Merida shocked the visitor with an unstoppable swerving left footed drive into the top right hand corner.
But they responded well through defender Insua, who struck a thunderous left footed volley past Fabianski to level the score.
In the second half, Arsenal got their winning goal when Merida find Bendtner from the left for the Dane to outrun Liverpool defender Skrtel into the box before let fly a left footer into the roof of the net.
Rafael Benitez then send on Bennayoun and Aqualani to add more bite in Liverpool attack but fail to break the Arsenal stout defence marshall by Senderos dan Slyvestre.
Arsenal - Fabianski, Gibbs, Senderos, Slyvestre, Gilbert, Eastmond (Coccleine), Ramsey, Nasri, Eduardo, Bendtner(Randall), Merida (Watts)
