Spur's Younes Kaboul heads in the winner |
Harry Redknapp made a tactical change in the line-up started with a five-man midfield and a lone striker with hopes to stop the full flowing Arsenal midfield engine room led by captain Cesc Fabregas towards the match.
But that did not have any impact as Fabregas and co begin to dominate the play and they were running all over taunting their opponent right from the start.
In the eight minute the Gunners took a 1-0 lead through Samir Nasri. Fabregas wonderful long through ball from the center circle was excellently picked up by Nasri. The French midfielder then beat the hesitant Hurielo Gomez as the ball was drifting a bit wide. But kept his cool despite being pressure by Assou Ekkoto to squeeze in his shot through the tightest angle.
Song and Gallas tussle for the ball |
In the 22nd minute, Fabregas could have easily double the lead but he muffed the chance after being put through perfectly by Alexander Song in the box.
Four minutes later, Maroune Chamakh showed his prowess in the box when lunged forward to connect Andre Arshavin cross from the left for the home side second goal.
Spurs too had their chance but Croatian - Luka Modric great effort was denied by Fabianski acrobatic dive to push the ball away for a fruitless corner just before the half-hour mark.
In the second half Redknapp resort back to a 4-4-2 formation by bringing in Jermaine Defoe for Aaron Lennon to partner Roman Pavlyuchenko upfront. The changes made a lot of difference as they took just six minutes into the second half to reduce the deficit through Gareth Bale whom Wenger regards as human cannon ball.
Pavlyuchenko ran through for a long ball and flick it on for Bale who hits it low with his outside left foot past Fabianski. With the goal the visitor looks to be much more into the game.
In the 66th minute, Spurs were awarded a free-kick following a foul by Song on Bale. Van Der Vart took the free-kick struck Cesc Fabregas arm and referee Phil Dowd pointed to the spot with the midfielder easily sending Fabianski the wrong way for the equaliser.
Arsenal could had easily restored their lead with two glorious chances. Gomez made amends of his goalkeeper error for the home side first goal when he made a wonderful saves to deny Fabregas curling shot. Followed by the unmarked Koncielny, putting his header over the crossbar at the far post.
In the 85th minute came in the Spurs winner. This time another Van Der Vart free-kick on the right saw defender Younes Kaboul glancing header went into the gaping goalmouth for Arsenal third home defeat in the Premier League.
