VAN PERSIE DOUBLE SEND WOLVES PACKING

ARSENAL stay hot on Manchester United heels as they send Wolverhampton Wanderers packing in the Barclay's Premier League match at the Emirates on Saturday.

A goal in each half from Robin Van Persie gave Arsenal a 2-0 win over Wolves whom earlier in the previous match smashed United proud undefeated record. The Gunners were the dominant force throughout the game and were always the likely winners, the opening goal coming in the 16th minute when van Persie directed a Cesc Fabregas cross into the bottom corner.

Fabregas finds space down the right to produce an unexpected left-footed cross that drops perfectly onto van Persie's foot, the Dutchman steering a penalty-spot volley into the bottom -left corner. Wolves can count themselves unlucky to be a goal down.

Fabregas had a shot cleared off the line after that, and Wolves had a brief foray forward at the end of the first half but achieved nothing. Theo Walcott missed a glorious chance after half time but soon made amends with a run and square ball for van Persie's second.

Fabregas' long, raking ball out to the right finds Walcott, who motors up the wing and cuts inside to square the ball for Robin van Persie, the striker placing the chance calmly into the bottom corner. The goal has taken a long time to arrive, but what a cracker.

Sylvain Ebanks-Blake nearly pulled one back for Wolves at the death but could only shoot over. This proved to be a big-name scalp too far for Wolves, while Arsenal maintain the pressure on leaders Manchester United.
