ARSENAL should blame no one except themselves for being too complacent allowing Newcastle to stage an amazing fightback to draw level 4-4 in a Premier league match at St. James Park yesterday. Had the Gunners won they could have close the gap on league leader Manchester United by two points. The Red Devils suffered a shocked 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Theo Walcott opened account just 40 seconds in the match when he race a through ball cleverly flick by Andre Arshavin, before shrugging of a challenge from a Newcastle defender Collocini to tap past goalkeeper Steve Harper.
Barely a minute later, defender Johan Djorou then made 2-0 when he nod into the roof of the net from Andre Arshavin free-kick. Robin Van Persie scored Arsenal third when he swept in a perfect cross by Walcott. The striker then double his tally when he thump in a free header from Bacary Sagna sweeping cross five minute before the half hour mark.
The home crowd was absolutely stunned by Arsenal whirlwind which saw some of the Newcastle fans leaving the stadium.
But in the second half it was a totally different ball game. Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby who had a fine game in the first half was not himself when he was flash a straight red card for retaliation.
Joey Barton lunge in a tackle on Diaby in the Arsenal half. The midfielder was furious and grasp Barton by the throat and push him to the ground. Kevin Nolan then rush toward Diaby but once again he push Nolan leaving referee Phil Dowd no choice but to send him off.
With one man advantage, the home side continued to pile on the pressure and they were duly rewarded when Koscielny carelessly brought down Leon Best in the box with Barton converted from the spot to made 1-4 in the 68th minute.
Six minutes later, St. James Park erupted when Leon Best made it 2-4 from close range. With seven minutes left another clumsy challenge by Koscielny and Rosicky on Williamson saw Phill Dowd awarded another penalty with Barton beating Wojciech Szczesny for the second time from the spot to made it 3-4.
Three minutes later Newcastle were back on level terms at 4-4 when midfielder Chioke Toite blast an extraordinary strike at the edge of the box to stunned the visitor.
