ARSENAL got their Christmas present at the Emirates last night with a truly deserved 3-1 win over the Premier League defending champions Chelsea to move up back to the second spot behind leaders Manchester United.
For the first time Chelsea top marksman, Didier Drogba fails to score against Arsenal putting Carlo Ancelotti's men hopes to retain the title suffered a huge blow coming into the half of the season.
Arsene Wenger made several changes in the side with the Dutchmen, Robin Van Persie made his first start after long injury together with captain Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott. While Johan Djorou partnered Koncielny at the back and Fabianski in goal.
While Chelsea were boost by the return of Frank Lampard to the side alongside Michel Essien and John Terry and they are back to their full strenght to launch the Blues back on top of the table.
But for Arsenal after a couple of season fails to collect points againts their title rivals last night proved otherwise as this time around they really meant business to make up all their losses into a serious title contenders this season as they destroy Chelsea.
Alexander Song put Arsenal into the lead a minute before the break. Before Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas combines to give Arsene Wenger side into the driving seat with two quicks goals after just six minutes into the second half.
Defender Branislav Ivanovic replied with a header to give Chelsea some hopes to be back in the game but Arsenal stood their ground well to prevent any costly errors.
Song goal before the break was the perfect tonic Arsenal needed as they stormed back after the interval with two quick goals through Cesc Fabregas before the captain return a favour for Walcott.
Robin Van Persie held on to the ball with three Chelsea players around him. Midfielder Michel Essien try to rob the ball instead he accidentally poke the ball into space for Walcott to make a run for it.
After missing a glorious opportunity one-on-one with Petr Cech earlier in the first half. The youngster made no mistake as he approached the keeper to slip in a pass for Cesc Fabregas to connect it home.
Then it was Walcott turn to robbed the ball of Florent Malouda and find Fabregas. The Spaniard flick the ball into space for Walcott to make the run and whip in a perfect low angled left foot shot into the right hand corner of the post.
With 3-0 down in just 54th minute, Chelsea definitely were shellshocked as they fails to ignite the spark needed to be back in the match. Didier Drogba too suffered and he was a pale shadow of himself.
In the 57th minute Chelsea were awarded a free-kick 35-yard out. Didier Drogba drove the ball into the box for Branislav Ivanovic to nod home past Lukasz Fabianski. But the goal fails to lift Carlo Ancelotti men into the game as it seems they knew it will be a mammoth task to break down the inform Arsenal defence.
