ARSENAL sweat their way through the last 16 of the Champions League knockout stages with a 3-1 win against Partizan Belgrade at the Emirates Stadium last night. Goals by Robin Van Persie 30th, Theo Walcott's 73rd and Samir Nasri in the 86th minute secured the Gunners passage.
Despite the win, Arsenal remain second behind Shakhtar Donetsk when they edge FC Braga 2-0 and the prospect of Arsene Wenger side facing others group winners in the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Schalke and Bayern Munich looks certain.
The Serbian champions showed they are tough nut to crack and Arsenal's needs a Robin Van Persie penalty to break the deadlock when the Dutchman was brought down in the box to take the lead on the half hour mark. But the visitor refused to back down and looks very determined in their attack.
Typical Arsenal once again showed their bad habbits of giving away goal whenever they took the lead as Braga's Cleo put the visitor level just after the resumption. Cleo shot strucked defender Sebastian Squillachi flew over Lukasz Fabianski into the net.
Arsene Wenger then took Andre Arshavin out for Theo Walcott and the 21-year-old took just seven minutes to stamp his mark to give Arsenal a 2-1 lead. A sheer moment of brilliance by Walcott quick to settle Arsenal nerve.
Four minutes before the final whistle, the Emirates suddenly erupted as the mercurical Frenchman, Samir Nasri's completed a remarkable week to seal the match with another Arsenal trademark goal. Alexander Song and Nicklas Bendtner combines well to set up for Nasri who is currently on top of his game with a clinical finish.
But the night was marred by the sending off defender Bacary Sagna for his attrocious tackle on Alexsandar Lazevski.
