ARSENAL ON RAMPAGE HIT SIX PAST FC BRAGA

ARSENAL goes on rampage as they steamroll past FC Braga with a-half-dozen goals in their opening Group H Champions League campaign at the Emirates Stadium last night. 

Captain Cesc Fabregas  stole the limelight scoring two and creating the other  three goals to guide the Gunners top of the group. While substitute Carlos Vela (68’, 73’), Andre Arshavin (30') and Maroune Chamakh in the 34th minute are the other Arsenal goalscorers. 




The home side start brightly as they when straight right from the kick-off exerting enormous pressure on the Braga defence any chance to settle down. The visitor were under constant threat and  they look most likely to be on the receiving end.

As expected early in the 9th minute, Arsenal broke the deadlock. Former Bordeaux striker Maroune Chamakh burst into the box but was brought down by FC Braga goalkeeper, Felipe.Referee pointed to the spot and Fabregas cooly slotted home to give Arsene Wenger side a 1-0 lead.


The home side starting to pull off their brakes allowing FC Braga to come back into the game. As they  just started  to look more dangerous, Andre Arshavin dealt a severe blow for the visitor with Arsenal second in the 30th minute. Fabregas show his class beating two defenders before finding the diminutive midfielder unmarked on the left. The Russian wasted no time to strike perfectly past the goalkeeper.

In the 34th minute the visitor were down by 3-0, Jack Wilshire backheel straight to  Maroune Chamakh quick to make space for himself in the opponent defence hit a low drive past the stranded Braga goalkeeper.

In the second-half Arsenal  did not show any sign to slow down the game as they continued to pile up the pressure on the visitor. In the 52nd minute, Andre Arshavin combines well with Fabregas as the Russian return a favour for the Spaniard to nod home his second goal for his 50th goal in Arsenal shirt.

With a healthy 4-0 lead, Arsene Wenger made a double substitution with Carlos Vela and Denilson coming in for Chamakh and Song. Mexican’s Carlos Vela then repaid Wenger faith when he added his name in the score sheet with two quick goals in the 68th and 73rd minute to cap a really impressive night for Arsenal.
