CHELSEA TRIUMPH AT THE EMIRATES

Poor Koscielny...two costliest mistake saw Arsenal beaten run came to end

ARSENAL saw their unbeaten run in five matches came to an end after suffering to their first home defeat at the Emirates to European Champions, Chelsea in a London derby match.

Two goals both from set pieces in each half was enough for Roberto Di Matteo side to avenge their 5-3 loss last season.

Gervinho scored but it's not good enough

ARSENAL GUNNED DOWN COVENTRY CITY 6-1

Arshavin is back in contention

ARSENAL 6

COVENTRY 1

ARSENAL march into the fourth round Capital One Cup with another thumping 6-1 win against Championship side Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium.

As we all hope, at last Oliver Giroud did find the net with a dink shot six minutes before the break to open the floodgate.

But the big question lies whether the French Ligue top scorer did have the ingredients to be a worthy goalscoring machine when he miss from the spot.

KOSCIELNY SAVE ARSENAL FROM DEFEAT

ARSENAL showed they are no pushover against champions Manchester City when they fought back late to secure a valuable 1-1 draw at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Julian Lescott put Roberto Mancini's side ahead in the first half.

But Laurent Koscielny effort level the tie late in the second half to give Arsene Wenger a valuable point.

ARSENAL GRABBED THEIR 1ST CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WIN

Football is all about winning. And that's is what Arsenal just did. Arsenal open up their Champions League campaign Group B match with an important away win at the Stade de la Mosson against unlucky Montpellier Herault FC side.

Earlier Montpellier were awarded a penalty kick. Arsenal's skipper Thomas Vermaelen may have got away with this in the Premier League but certainly not in the Champions League, although the main issue was whether the tackle was made inside or outside the box.

It seemed as if Montpellier got lucky as Belhanda looked as though he could have been outside the area — just — but the midfielder dusted himself down to deliver a classy dinked penalty kick, sending goalkeeper Vito Mannone the wrong way. It was only the second time Arsenal had conceded a goal this season but impressively, they hit back with a stunning double blow.

Prince Poldi on target again
Two goals in the space of 120 seconds, in fact, with Podolski looking every inch the quality international player he is.

Santi Cazorla, who has also done well since his arrival, found Giroud who teed the ball off for Podolski. The German took one touch to get the ball inside the area before firing it past keeper Geoffrey Jourden.

ARSENAL ON RAMPAGE AGAINST THE SAINTS

ARSENAL thrashed newly promoted Southampton 6-1 in a Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Gervinho, playing as a central striker, scored twice, the impressive Lukas Podolski netted with a terrific free-kick while Theo Walcott — jeered by some fans when arriving as a sub — completed the rout against his former club.
Arsenal’s opener illustrated Podolski’s bloody-minded attitude. He had initially lost the ball to Jos Hooiveld but showed power and determination to win the ball back.

The German raced forward before threading the ball between Jose Fonte and Nathaniel Clyne towards Kieran Gibbs.

The defender’s cross was parried by Kelvin Davis but the ball hit Hooiveld and trickled into the net.

Hooiveld’s disastrous afternoon was soon ended by a calf injury and it all continued to get worse for Saints boss Nigel Adkins when Podolski managed to swing a free-kick over the wall and into the net.

A difficult challenge for the visitors became an impossible one.

PODOLSKI FIRST PREMIER LEAGUE GOAL

LIVERPOOL 0
ARSENAL    2

ARSENAL came out on top at Anfield with a calculated 2-0 away win against Liverpool. Newly signings Lukas Podolski and Santi Carzola both turn in a great style to give Arsene Wenger's a memorable victory over newly appointed Liverpool manager Brendan Roger's side.

Podolski score his first Premier League goal.
This is Arsenal first league win after two matches resulting in a stalemate against Sunderland and Stoke City.

The win did put a huge relief especially towards Arsene Wenger's new signings to have really giving an impact to the team.

Infact both combined well for the two goals with the German fed the Spaniard Cazorla but kept running 50 yards to take a beautifully-weighted return pass into space Glen Johnson failed to fill, picking his spot to squeeze a left-foot shot past Reina.

It was Arsenal’s first goal of the season and should have been followed with a second before the break. But Olivier Giroud, with Kieran Gibbs screaming for the pass that would have handed him an open goal, swung his left foot and sent the ball into the Kop.
