ARSENAL threw away the opportunity to close on the gaps with Manchester United after they were held to a scoreless draw by Blackburn Rovers at the Emirates Stadium last night.
Arsenal started brightly and had a first look at goal early in the 5th minute through Theo Walcott but Robinson blocked the shot well from an acute angle.In the 14th minute Samir Nasri suffered a knock after a clash of heads with Blackburn defender Ryan Nelsen. Despite heavily strapped on the head by the Arsenal medical team the Frenchman continues to play.
In the 29th minute Jack Wilshere had a glorious opportunity but he wasn't quick enough to guide Samir Nasri cross into the goal.Despite the early setback Blackburn defended very well absorbing the pressure. The visitor quick counter attack proves to be working very well for them and it nearly paid off.
Twice they came close of scoring. In the 32nd minute Martin Ollson nearly came to give Blackburn the opening goal with Almunia produce another howler when the ball slip through his hand for a corner.
Late into the first half again Blackburn came closest to scoring when a long ball from Robinson into the Arsenal box saw Steven Nzonzi rose high to head but was few inches wide off target.
In the 57th minute Arsene Wenger introduce Cesc Fabregas to replace Andre Arshavin but the Spaniard fail to give any impact towards the match as he usually does.In the 64th minute Robin Van Persie low drive was well held by Robinson.
But with a fifteen minutes left Blackburn was reduced to 10 men when Steven Nzonzi was given a straight red card when he lunged a tackle on Laurent Koscielny.
Despite playing with 10th man Arsenal fail to take the advantage. Only in the 77th minute from Maroune Chamakh effort but his shot was blocked by Olsen in the box.
Blackburn hang on until the final whistle to held Arsenal for a precious one point to a scoreless draw. With the draw, with eight matches left Arsenal miss the opportunity to close on the gap with league leaders Manchester United.
