ARSENAL suffered another rude shock 1- 0 defeat against Ipswich Town in the Carling Cup 1st leg semi-final at Portman Road last night. Hungarian striker Tamas Priskin scored the winning goal in the 77th minute to give the manager less championship side a huge boost into the second-leg at the Emirates.
With the home side morale is still low after their 7-0 thrashing by Chelsea in the FA Cup 3rd round match. The Tractors under caretaker manager Ian McParland did manage to get down out of doldrums to snatch an important victory.
But luckily for Arsenal they are not out of the cup for there is still the second-leg left to be played at the Emirates in two weeks time to repair the damage.
Arsenal dominate the first half but fails to find the breakthrough. Only in the second half they began to create a few scoring chances.
In the 70th minute the visitor had a great opportunity to take the lead. Goalkeeper Marton Fulop saw the danger and his quick intervention prevent Theo Walcott fine effort at the near post.
Five minutes later captain Cesc Fabregas misjudged Kieran Gibbs fine cross in the box by hitting it just wide.
Then came the winning goal. Colin Healey quick to pounce a loose ball and send behind the Arsenal defence.Tamas Priskin race for the through ball with Johan Djorou right behind him. But the Hungarian showed his composure to tuck in the ball past the stretching arms of Wojciech Szczesny.
Ipswich must thank their keeper Fulop again for making another fine save to deny Theo Walcott after the England international made a brilliant run to receive Fabregas pass in the box.
With the visitors pushing their men forward to find the equaliser Ipswich's Carlos Edwards had a glorious chance to double the scoreline but his effort fail to beat Szczescny.
