Drogba feat 13 goals in 13 matches against Arsenal |
Arsenal made a bright start early in the match despite Stamford Bridge it is not a happy hunting ground for them. In a space of seven minutes they have three glorious opportunity. Right in the very first minute Maroune Chamakh dived to meet Bacary Sagna cross but the ball just swivel past the far post. From a corner, Laurent Koncielny free header suprisingly spill the ball over the bar followed by a powerful drive by Andre Arshavin brought a top class save by Petr Czech.
In the 34th minute, Lukasz Fabianski then got his angle right when he deny Didier Drogba powerful strike at the near post. But four minutes later, the Arsenal no.2 man was beaten. Brazilian midfielder Ramirez nicely put Ashley Cole through behind the defence. Cole first time cross was perfectly met by Drogba with his back-heel at a tight angle into the net for a 1-0 lead in the first half. It was Drogba 13 goals in 13 matches against Arsenal.
In the second half, Arsene Wenger's side began to take control of the match but they were nearly punished and were lucky not to go down 2-0. Nicholas Anelka quick to pounce a sloppy back-pass by Sebastien Squillachi which the striker surely must score but astonishingly hit the side netting with Fabianski already beaten in the 62nd minute.
With the match heading towards the final-quarter, Chelsea were awarded a free-kick just outside the box. Defender Alex made his run and rocketed his shot with such a velocity through the wall past the helpless Fabianski to bury any hopes of the visitor coming back into the match.
