Arsene Wenger's side made a vibrant start into the match putting the visitor in lot of pressure early into the game. Maroune Chamakh nearly put Arsenal in the lead in the fourth minute but saw his effort was well blocked by goalkeeper Ben Foster after a wonderful play by Jack Wilshere in the box.
In the 17th minute Arsenal had a goal disallowed by referee Martin Atkinson through a fine header by defender Sebastien Squillachi from Samir Nasri free-kick.Six minutes later left back Gael Clichy had a big chance to score but strike it wildly at the far post.
Then in the 32nd minute Birmingham City stunned the Emirates when 6 feet 8 inches Serbian international Nicola Zigic tallest in the field scored with a beautiful header giving goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski no chance at the far post.
But Arsenal back on level terms five minutes before the break when Maroune Chamakh was brought down by Scott Dan in the box. Samir Nasri took the spot kick hits it cleanly to send Ben Foster the wrong way.
Three minutes into the second half, Arsenal took a 2-1 lead through Maroune Chamakh. Jack Wilshere made a pass to Chamakh in the box.Birmingham skipper Stephen Carr hesitate to clear thus allowing the Moroccan international to take possession. The striker force his way around the keeper before calmly putting the ball into the net for his fifth league goal.
In the final ten minutes Arsene Wenger side had a big chance to put the game to bed but they simply could not find the target. Nicklas Bendtner back from injury was brought in by Wenger to replace Maroune Chamakh.
With four added time Arsenal were reduced to 10 men when Jack Wilshere was send to the tunnel by Atkinson for his awful challenge on Serbian, Zigic.
