Before the last match against the French side, Arsene Wenger claimed that he would be happy with four points from the two matches. Following this result, that's exactly what they have, but the Gunners boss will feel his side could have taken all three points tonight and guaranteed qualification. Both sides had their chances in an open and enthralling game, but ultimately there were no real chances of note.
Arsenal could have had a penalty early on following Souleymane Diawara's handball, but the referee only gave a free-kick. Remy and Mathieu Valbuena had chances for the visitors, whilst Ramsey and Gervinho were the danger men for the hosts. Aaron Ramsey should have got himself a double against the Didier Deschamp's side but he was second to late to strike.
The second half started much the same as the first had ended, with Arsenal dominating but not being able to get the end product. The ineffectual Park was replaced by Van Persie but even the Dutchman couldn't spur the team on. The captain had a great chance since coming on but his cleverly chip shot was not high enough to beat the Marseille keeper Steve Mandanda. Gervinho once again looked dangerous, and Marseille themselves had chances, but ultimately neither side could find a way through. A late flurry from Arsenal threatened a repeat of the first game, but in the end a 0-0 draw was the most fair result. Arsenal 0 - 0 Marseille.
The good news is defender Thomas Vermaelen return to lead the side to partner Pete Mertesacker throughout the 90 minutes.
